ha giang loop

five days on a motorbike.

the ha giang loop is a winding motorbike path through northern vietnam, up to the border of china and back down to the town of ha giang, an adventure that i’ve dreamt of doing long before i even left for my solo trip.

when the time finally came to do the loop, we encountered fog, rain, sun, charging buffalo, and precarious cliffside roads. the memories of racing past lush rice paddies and jagged mountaintops are burnt into the back of my eyelids. at night, we slept and ate dinner at local homestays, drank lots of happy water (home brewed rice wine), played cards, and sang off-key karaoke in broken vietnamese.

we could only bring a small backpack on the trip, since everything had to be strapped onto the back of the motorcycle— so i had to be careful about my photography equipment. i brought one film camera, two rolls of film, and my digital canon r6 with a 35mm lens.

some of my favorite images i’ve made yet, from environmental portraits to landscape photography deep in the clouds. an adventure for the books<3

where the sun kisses the mountains

an impenetrable blanket of fog settled over us on the third day~

we stopped everyday at noon for a traditional a vietnamese lunch, and geared up to get back on the road right after eating //

many of the tour groups stop at the same place for lunch; we ended up running to many of the same people that we met in ha giang and even from hanoi!

our ha giang group!!!

our fearless motorbike leader: danny!

silliness ensues

coffee and vietnamese sausage; a midday snack reward for getting through the fog
